Old style diner --- Petri's. Damn the luck with Lisa's. It was not retro. It was the real thing that just never was updated. I believe that another establish could make it -- if the locals don't trash its reputation (see Topix with BBQ and Aiello's)... and spend their money elsewhere. Again, I am trying to be optimistic here. I just want to invite big picture thinking. Some people believe when a visit to a business is not right on its first day, they have to open their mouths and trash the place. Opening day is never the day to go even if they are giving the stuff away. If you don't like it - tell the people that are involved what you WOULD like. Don't squak on the message boards about it. If someone was rude, management can do something, and if the manager was rude, the owner or operator can do something -- or the franchise owner or corporate can do something. If the person at the highest level was rude, you may have a valid beef...but still, this community needs businesses to run. Why not just quietly not return and trust the intelligence of future customers. If they're happy they'll come back, if not they'll not come back and the business will suffer if quality control is not attended to. I know of some stories where people didn't know what they were doing and then wondered why they could not live on their receipts from the customers. Well...businesses aren't turnkey, they require real work, and a good presentation. When the work is not put into the product, it will suffer. But still if they make me mad as a customer, I do not have to be on a crusade to trash them. All I have to do is not show up again. I don't have to tell my friends or post about it. Soon their lack of attention to quality will take care of itself. But when a place starts up, they have to really see what needs to be done to hit the target. Almost no one hits the target in the first few weeks of operation, but if they are generally good and seek to improve the kinks in the system, the business can be a fine operation. I miss Kriegers in a lot of ways. It was a chain, yeah, but they really tried to make a go of it, with a generous sized staff at all stations. Food and service were good. I think it was the chain itself that could not sustain in hard times and a lot of their locations closed. Too bad -- it was a great place!
