Granite City Police Chief out of line?Archived Message

A local rap artist was trying to have a small comeback concert at the KC hall next week. The hall had been booked a month or so in advance. Yesterday, less than a week until the the show, this GC resident received a call from the hall informing him they wouldn't be able to host this event. No explanation was given other than their insurance wouldn't cover it.
I get it that it's the KC hall's prerogative to have the event or not. But today, an inside source at the hall revealed the real reason for the cancellation.
The GC Police Chief had contacted KC Hall and informed them that they should not have this show because "it would bring the gangs out". And they heeded his advice.
This local rapper is a white man with no affiliation to any gangs. The other artist that was going to perform is a black man but he does more of a rock/rap style, again no gang affiliation. None of these artists even rap about any gang activity.
So the police chief hears "rap concert" and immediately assumes "gang violence". This comes off as completely racist to me.
I'm sorry, but rap music and gangs do not go hand in hand. A lot of good kids, of all races, love rap music.
