It would be interesting to where you received this information. Three weeks ago while in Washington DC I spoke directly to the lead CDC invesigator for this case. The CDC has not released any official documents or made official comments. The Nevada State Health Department Report contains data which is close to your claims but not entirely accurate. The Las Vegas newspaper is more like your statements.

    1. The surgery center in question has also employed locums MDAs over the study period.

    2. The CDC or Nevada state health department has not made official findings related to the vector in these cases (Genetic testing and temporal chart reviews will be the deciding factor.... That is how epidemiological studies work) Everything else at this point is circumstantial suppositions. (Please provide the official reports where you received your data)

    3. Is it more likely that reused biopsy forcepts (you cannot sterilize mucous based biofilms) or a syringe potentially being reused? After the study is concluded possibly both?

    4. I am not sure of your background or training, but prior to this I was a Cert. AT for years. The practice of reusing syringes (for an entire day) has been commonplace in many settings since the early 1990s (my direct observations) so if anyone thinks this is an isolated case, only found in the CRNA anesthesia population, then you have not been around long.

    5. Actually the NSBN has not pursued or made any findings related to this case as the reports are not completed by the NSHD or CDC.

    6. No person in the clinic was witnessed reusing syringes (An MDA at another clinic was seen using the "high port"). However this clinic no person was seen utilizing this practice.

Syringe reuse is not acceptable in my opinion. If the molecular epidemiologic evidence implicates the CRNAs or MDAs who worked in the clinc, then this debate is valid. However, until the case is resolved, this type of provider bashing is ridiculous.
