Re: Nevada Hepatitis FACTS Archived Message

I shall take each of your facts and discuss it.

    1. No CRNA or other anesthesia provider at the surgery center in question was ever witnessed or admitted to administering propofol in a manner that transmits Hepatitis.

((Funny how you mention "other anesthesia provider" when in FACT, the only providers involved were CRNAs. As far as no one having witnessed it? FACT: ""CDC investigators said in a report to the Nevada State Health Division that during visits to the clinic, they saw employees reusing syringes to give a sedative and that interviews suggested it was common practice.""" I guess you do not think the CDC is a valid witness. As far as admitting it? They admitted using a syringe on one patient, then using that same syringe to draw up more propofol from a single use bottle, contaminating that bottle, then using the same bottle on subsequent patients. If they did not know that could transmit hepatitis that should not be considered an excuse.

    2. The CDC and Nevada public health departments findings do not cite Anesthesia providers as using needles on multiple patients. In fact, for those of you who administer propofol...It goes in the IV posi-port...the patient is not injected directly from the syringe.

((That is true but the FACT is they reused syringes and just because you inject into an IV line rather than the patient does NOT protect from cross contamination. Again, ignorance does not protect the patient.))

#3, 4, 5. Regardless of failings of others in providing care at these facilities, the FACT is the CRNAs failed to meet standard of care for the areas they were responsible. The FACT is, the CDC stated the reuse of syringes ""was considered the most likely mode of transmission," the report said.""

And the FACT is, the FIVE CRNAs surrendered their licenses in lieu of other legal actions by the State Board of Nursing.

The FACT is they done bad. Even if other people at the endoscopy center done bad, it does not change the FACT that these CRNAs done bad. Pointing fingers at others does not change that FACT.

And by the way, as of this date, the Nevada Board of Nursing STILL has not released the names of these five CRNAs. Let us hope they lost BOTH of their licenses and are not working somewhere as RNs.
