I think older folks have so many things to deal with. Their finances are one. Not everyons has a nest egg provided from money they might have inherited. Some lose a spouse and with thattheir SS changes. People are lonely, longing for days they shared withpeople no longer with them. Not much left to do but complain at times because changing circumstances is not always possible.

I feel bad for older folks who have to go through burying their spouse after many years
Its hard as a younger person, i cant even imagine dealing with that as an older person

One thing ive learned, everyone has a story and we have no idea what life dealt them..
