The only money I got was .30 for lunch every now and then when I was in high school. I'd get a fudgesicle for .5 and a bag of Fretos for .5 and save the rest for a pack of cigarettes.

I gave Rene' .25 a week and she'd get a candy bar from the liquor store while she was waiting for the school bus for .5 every day.

I gave Alicia and Andrea $5 once a week and told them to put $2.50 in the bank and they could spend $2.50. They ended up just spending the $5. I trusted them to do what I said and when I found out they weren't I stopped their allowance.

With Rene and Amy (my oldest and youngest) I was in a position I couldn't afford to give them an allowance. They never seemed to miss it.

So, there you have the story of allowances in my family.
