We'd be miserable without our fans. We have ceiling fans in practically every room and oscillating tower fans sitting around, too. The dogs like the tower fans and they sit right up to them with their noses almost touching. We also have a window fan that the window sits down on and keeps it in place. Like you said we use that to suck the hot air out of the room. It works remarkably well and it's all plastic! If I get really hot I soak a bandana in cold water and tie it around my neck. That works for people and dogs.

I heard that before air conditioning was invented people used to soak sheets in water and hang them up against the open windows so the breeze would blow through them and cool off a room.

I was just outside and it's getting pretty toasty out there. It will be hotter tomorrow. Hopefully our heat wave will break by Wednesday.
