The NP is very thorough and finds things. She listened to us and says she wants to do a certain neurological test that puts needles in your feet to see how far up the nerve impulses go because it will tell a lot if his problem are in his spine or up higher. So she pulls his socks off. OMG, we were in for the shock of our lives. His feet are in horrible shape. He's got calluses and dried white skin flaking and weird toenails and you name it.
The NP was not phased. She said she used to be a hospice nurse and always saw things like that. She said if people are old or sick they can't take care of their feet and things can go bad quickly. So she prescribed soaking and scrubbing his feet in medicated shampoo and scheduled a trip to the podiatrist (next week) to get his toenails trimmed and whatever else needs to be done. Then when his feet are in better shape, they can do this neurological needle test.
And already he is refusing to follow instructions. He's supposed to soak and scrub his feet every day, but he has skipped days and just ignores what he is told. I'm at the point where HE can take some responsibility for his actions. HE can explain why he doesn't soak his feet and do as instructed.
So that's where we are right now.
