Year of Manufacture: 2007 Engine Size and Code: 3.0 diesel
Hi Sprinter V6 auto, 2007 with 280,000 miles on it, full details below.
Ok, this one has a intermittent fault, but does seem to happen most times about 1/2 mile after cold start, still happens hot but random intervals. Vehicle loses power (feel's similar to being in limp) but ease foot off accelerator & put back on and power is restored, no eml light, no fault codes logged. It does logs 4 x heater plug faults from cold start but had fault occur hot with no glow plug fault, this has had a couple of glow plug faults logged for last 6 years while we have been looking after it, plugs are seized and no start or DPF issues so been left.
On arrival it had a 'exhaust back pressure sensor fault logged, this has been sorted with new sensor and clearing port, no improvement on problem, MAF look pretty contaminated (not surprising at mileage) fitted a new bosch to eliminate it, no change.
I did manage a very quick look at live data while faulting, APP read 98% boost target & measured both 1200. likewise fuel pressure was around 650 bar. from this it looked like some thing was 'requesting' reduced torque.
Had a ABS /ESP next, numerous random fault codes which cleared and did not return after faulting. Live data showed and air gap issue on o/s/ r which has been sorted with no improvement. Brake pedal sensor seemed a bit quick to switch so have adjusted that slightly to.
Auto gearbox shows a 'clutch lock up fault' which clears but returns on road test, live data would indicate some slip and at tha mileage not surprising, again I feel that is a long term issue and not relevant.
So suggestions please !

Hello Aidan, When was the fuel filter changed?
Could you fit resistors or glow plugs externally to do a regen?
When you fitted the new air mass meter did you carry out adaptations?
The V6 Vito vans I have done have an "O" ring seal on the air inlet/intercooler pipes were they branch off for the two banks of inlet manifolds and they can wiggle lose and give problems.
Just a few thoughts Ian

Hi Ian
Thanks, yes had a fuel filter, yes adapted new MAF & Air filter
Dont think heater plugs are an issue,If as clear the fault code when engine warm fault still present but heater plugs codes dont return.

What about the Map sensor? Is it dirty or partly blocked, Could it be a case of, as the engine warms up old tarry oil melts a little and is upsetting things a little

Hi Folk Could do with some opinions on this one, still on going.
A making no progress referred this to local Merc dealer who have now had it for a week with no firm diagnosis, story goes like this
a)First tech to look at it replicated fault but had no ideas ! b) 'more experienced' tech had some time on it including low & high pressure fuel checks and identified a injector with leak off issue (believable at mileage) and was 'hopeful' it would fix it, sadly fault still evident, so £1K and no fix ! c) They have now they are 'suggesting' that torque converter lock up clutch fault is the cause, another £2k with not guarantee of fix. At may request they have checked Engine software is up to date (they had already checked gearbox as update was listed for clutch lock up fualt code)
I spoke to local Auto gearbox specialist before referring this and they where confident that on this box this fault would not cause symptoms.
So guys any suggestions please as to which way to go.
Regards Aidan

Long Shot
Exhaust Baffles lose and block exhaust causing to much back pressure.
Had this problem with a Viva in the 70's
Actually stalled the engine!
Not saying it is this fault just something to check!
