Nissan Navara D40 2.7L 2008 - Black smoke #

Year of Manufacture *: 2008
Engine Size and Code *: 2.7L

Hi Friends..This Truck runs good but smokes like coal locomotive engine ..I see thick black smoke when rev up..

Before i get dirty with this engine..i need some tips..(i have LAUNCH PAD SCANNER AND A SCOPE)

What is Normal Diesel injection per cylinder for this model..?

What is the correct MAF Value at idle to WOT..?

How do i know if injectors are Dumping too much Fuel..?

Can Oil Leaking from TURBO Bearing make Black smoke...?

How about EGR...?

I see Oil Bathed injectors 1 and 4...

Please help me find Root Cause for Black smoke..??? Is it Due to Engine Oil Burning,Too much Diesel or both...?

any boost leaks ? pressures OK

Can you blank the EGR temporarily to try, Some of these known to fail cant just recall year / engine range

Hi i have Blanked off EGR still smoke... What is the correct Injection Volume MM3 per Stroke for idle, Part load and Full Load..?

Cant help with injection qty's but bear in mind with a diesel that is how it controls engine speed (subject to sufficient air) so if it was high at idle it would increase speed.

Do you know the history ? no chance of a dodgy remap?

I take it you have confirmed air supply is good now.

Hi i have Disconnected intercooler line and the MAF sensor..and rev up several times but still has black smoke..

Here is some SCAN DATA taken at idle with AC ON
RAIL PRESSURE 36MPa..
MAF is 2.19V..
MAIN INJ WID 0.41MS...
INT/A VOLUME 761.44mg

AT FULL THORTTLE
RAIL PRESSURE 160MPa..
MAF is 4.20V..
MAIN INJ WID 0.72MS...
INT/A VOLUME 1523mg

I could not find a MAP sensor Anybody know where is it..? So i cant give YOU TURBO BOOST VALUE..

Any how after blanking of EGR i felt much better engine power..Engine runs Very smooth

Please tell me HOW DO I FIND OUT BLACK SMOKE IS DUE TO BAD INJECTORS DUMPING TOO MUCH FUEL..????

Think what the ECU is seeing with an intercooler leak and what its response will be.

Hi How does this NAVARA Detects air leak it does not have O2 sensor..? also i dont see MAP sensor in Datastream..

Have you checked the pipes and air filter for blockages....seen it too many times!!

If it an old style turbo with pressure operated wast-gate in may not have a map sensor, as there it would not need both MAP & MAF

Are you saying the inter cooler is leaking ?

Black smoke is mostly caused by insufficient air / oxygen to burn fuel injected,so prove air supply is good first !

qty of fuel is controlled by ECU so next step is to make sure all sensors / inputs are correct.

Next step would be prove engine mechanical condition good. (compression's, valve timing etc)

If all above OK suspect possible injector fault, wont be dumping fuel as that is controlled by other factors, but could be poor spray pattern resulting in poor burn. Best to have them bench tested

Hi yeah this Truck has old style turbo with pressure operated wast-gate & has non piezo injectors..But has MAF sensor..it Has plenty of engine Power Just has Black Smoke..

Is it smoking rich Due to O2 sensor detecting Lean because of intake leak below MAF sensor..?

Hi i repeat.. i Disconnected MAF and Intercooler Line to the intake also back plated the EGR But still has Black smoke How Do i Blame Injectors to be removed..?

**** FIX THE LEAK ON THE INTER COOLER!!!!!!!!

Then give it a good run to clear out exhaust, then move on to other things if you need to

I doubt this will have a Oxy sensor & the inter cooler is under POSITIVE pressure so as said think what the MAF is doing.

Hi My MAF reading is good ,,I came to conclusion that injectors needs repair or replacement...
