Kia Carens 2.0 CRDi 2009 - Code P2112, Intermittent, will only rev to 3000 rpm #

hello all

I have this Kia to look at with an intermittent problem.
I usually pass this sort of job onto a local diesel specialist with more knowledge/information/equipment than I have but due to the intermittent nature of the problem the car was fine when they looked at it and they say they could find no fault

What happens is at random the car will only rev to 3000rpm when driving, when this happens sometimes the engine light comes on {but not always} and code P2112 can sometimes be read. the definition for this code I have is - "Throttle actuator control system - stuck closed" {I am not really sure what this definition means ,if it refers to the throttle body this is fully open at rest}
the car can be fine for several days, have looked at EGR and throttle body , both are reasonably clean and not stuck, fuel filter good, even when rpm is restricted car has no lack of power, I have a basic code reader with some live data , but cant find much info on this car. I am not going to throw parts at the car , I am trying to learn what the fault is first

I could have sworn I replied to this yesterday, but it seems the post has disappeared?

Anyway, take the throttle body off, and undo the torx screws for the motor cover. You'll find the inside is either full of oil, stripped gears or both!
It's a reasonably common problem.

Earlier versions also had a problem with fuel temperature sensor wiring (passenger side of cylinder head below MAF sensor) breaking, but I think this should have been modified on yours. As the ECU used alternative sources for temperature it would work until the engine got particularly hot, then = LIMP: key off = cleared codes.

Oh, and these don't log fault codes for stuck EGR valves either, so if they have also noted problems cold starting, the EGR valve is stuck open.

hello Tony , sorry for late update, had a look inside throttle body - all the gears are ok and moving fine but there was quite a bit of oil inside . I thought there was nothing to loose by trying to clean with brake cleaner so did this and reassembled but intermittent problem still there.
next called a KIA dealer for price & availability of throttle body and was told this isn't available on its own but comes with the inlet manifold at £866 !
unsurprisingly the owner doesn't want to spend this much on a part

any ideas for an alternative source of a throttle body would be helpful,

Post the chassis number and I should be able to get the throttle body part number. The dealer is probably being forced to select none dpf version! As "with dpf" version won't be highlighted.

Without the Chassis number I believe it's: 3510027410 (they're looking in the wrong place on eCat), assuming it's with the manifold, but it isn't! It's shown with injectors.....

thank you Tony for that info, will call KIA dealer again today . To be honest not that impressed with some Kia dealers , first two I called said they would have to call me back with price & availability - but never called back { I don't know why they couldn't look it up while I was on the phone}

The 3rd dealer I called was helpful and did look it up while I was on phone and quoted above price, he also mentioned the swirl flaps in the manifold causing similar problems but these seem to be operating okay when I last looked at car
