Peugeot 207 1.6 9HZ 2007 - Code P0420 - Ongoing #

( Optional) Fault Codes: p0420 exh. differ. pressure signal filter overload

Hi everyone

I have this one in at the moment and it's a bit strange. lately the message exhaust filter risk of blockage appears on the dashboard

The car drives well and the mil is off the fault code is as above and will not clear and the live data does't make sense to me as it shows the dif. pressure and filter load to be very low can anybody make any sense of this? the live data is at 3.600rpm and the scope capture is the dif. pressure sensor on idle

Hi George

How many miles has this done ?

I seem to remember having on similar and came to the conclusion it was message related to end expected service life rather than actual fault detected.

We physically cleaned that one, but message only cleared when we ran the < New DPF routine <

hi aidan this car has done 67k i tend to believe that the dif. pressure sensor maybe faulty it does't seem to register engine revs at 3.600 rpm it should show 200mb not 33 i may strip it to remove it from where it's buried to have a close look at it. does anyone have a waveform to compare mine?

the data pid that shows 57 g of additive in the pef, is where your problem lies, this data is a calculated value of ash from the amount of additive that has been used in the life of the filter.

the pid PEF load is the calculation of soot not ash.

elois fluid lowers the combustion of the soot in the filter to about 400 degrees c which is a aid to passive regeneration, but the down side is that ash that is left behind.

the mbar differential pressure reading at 3600 rpm looks fine at 35 mbar which is 3.5 kpa or 0.5 psi check the value with a cat back pressure gauge to see if they agree.

the proper fix is to have the filter cleaned or replaced. as if it does have 57 g of ash in it, its full.

removing it and jet washing is a option also.

or its posable that just telling the car it has a new filter on it may get rid of the code .

thanks for your response unfortunately i don't have a cat back pressure gauge so i can't manually check the dpf pressure as for the dif. pressure sensor i have never seen it so low this car belongs to a member of my family and i have been checking it and logging live data for 4 years and i have never seen under 90mb at 3.000rpm even just after it had regenerated. this is a bit confusing to me as the dpf fault code is current and will not clear yet the mil is off and the car drives well only sometimes the message exhaust filter risk of blockage shows

Andrew I presume you mean ash and not soot.

The life span of these filters is supposedly 70,000 miles.

As Andrew has said the fault code has been logged because it has calculated that 57g of ash now resides in the filter

look at the top data Pid in georges OP it shows 3% pef load.

this is what i was referring as soot not ash.

ash has its own data pid 57g

unless 57g is 3 % of some other calculation. ?

Had one in today with same fault, so phoned autologic for clarification. The loading is a theoretical calculation for what it thinks is in the dpf. If after checking the pressures and confirming it's not restricted, then resetting the counters is acceptable and will remove the dtc.

I've had success with a low pressure gauge conected to the dpf pipes before and after DPF.

You can then compare to the dpf sensor as seen by the scantool.

hi everyone this one seems to have fixed it self maybe it needed a regen. or maybe it was water in the sensor pipes the last time i had a look at it there are no fault codes and the dif. sensor seems to be responding well showing about 85mb at 3100rpm the only strange thing is the particle emission load is at 0 and the distance traveled since the last regen. is at 0 it's as if it has just had a regen. i will have another look at it after it has done a few more miles and report back
