Audi A5 2.7 2007 - Miss-fueled with petrol - Fixed #

Engine Size and Code *: 2.7 diesel cama
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Autocom and Picoscope

Hi, we have an Audi A5 2.7d which was filled with petrol and driven until it cut out, customer had fuel drained and refilled with Diesel by a mobile company. They could not get car started after 1 hour of trying!
Recovered to us, I took a sample of fuel and there was still petrol in low pressure at the engine, I've drawn the diesel through but still non start.
Only 11 bar pressure on crank , and 0.6 volts on cranking at rail pressure sensor, even with the pressure regulator earthed out (Solenoid clicks) and fuel getting to injectors .
Voltage on known good vehicle(3 ltr touareg) 1.2 volts at cranking and idle.
Are these pumps very sensitive or has extended cranking created the problem? Difficult to prove
Ive never had problems with misfuels before, always been straightforward.
Any thoughts appreciated

Hi Mark,
I take it that you mean seal off the rail/injectors?
Ive ordered a false actuator kit, I am going to test the pump again with the rail sealed.

Is this a common rail engine with Delphi injectors?

If so, I have done an A3 2009 reg that was miss-fuelled. Ended up with a pump rebuild, all new injectors, removed fuel tank to be cleaned, new filters etc.. The Delphi system does seem to be fragile when miss-fuelled.

An expensive job. Get the customer to ask his insurance company if it will cover misfuel repairs.

You don't need the false actuator kit on that vehicle, seal the pump, and crank the vehicle, the RPS will see no pressure ( because the rail is not connected to the pump) and therefore the ECU will command the control to full flow in an at attempt to generate pressure, simples :-)

Hi thanks for replies, confirmed pump fault , found plenty of swarf inside the pump.
Â£1250 for pump and Â£385 for the injectors from Tps.
Bosch Cp4 pump fitted.
I will post the findings on other damage.

If you get the go-ahead, fit a new fuel rail as well as the pump & Injectors.

Fitted new pump, injectors, rails, flushed out fuel lines and cleaned tank out.
Car all ok. Not covered by admiral Insurance company.

Done at cost as it was my brother's car.
