Year of Manufacture *: 2004 Engine Size and Code *: 1.9 TDI Pumpe D BKC ( Optional ) Scanner Used: Vagcom ( Optional) Fault Codes: 16683 Boost Pressure Regulation
Hi
I have this Golf with MIL on and fault code
16683 Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached
When reading live data the boost pressure is down by about a third.
At idle the desired is 1060mbar and actual is approx 600mbar
The garage has already replaced the charge air pressure sensor [J31] and the MAF with original items. I cleaned both items as a precaution.
I have smoked the intake [ok]
Pulled down the waste gate with a mitivac and am getting full boost, there is no excess smoke.
Throttle shut off valve open whilst running.
EGR shows good on desired and actual 250mg/STR, however, after about 2 minutes of idle the actual jumps to 410mg/STR. At this point the vacuum is lost from the EGR. With a scope on the vacuum control solenoids the PCM is switching off its pull down command, thus the lack of vacuum. Does this happen on a known good vehicle, if so why would the desired still be at 250mg/STR? I have re checked this and it happens every time, when the engine is revved again vacuum is returned for about 2 minutes.
Does anyone know of a software update for issues like this one?
Any help would be gratefully accepted
Regards
Simon

Hi, Ignition on engine off are you getting 1000mbar boost or there about? Check turbo isn't seized. Egr valve will come on for about 2 mins at idle then shut off this is normal. Shane

Simon.
IF you put that fault code into the forum search engine you will find the "fix"
Pull the pipe off the compressor side of the turbo & ensure it spins freely & is still intact.
These have a bad habit of spitting the compressor wheel out & emptying the sump into the intake - pretty much as Shane has already stated. I thought it would be worth clarifying it before you give yourself a large headache with a bent engine.
if you mean the thread http://members.boardhost.com/ukautotalk8/msg/1295782146.html about the Octavia I did check that out first before posting, and with this car getting full boost with the wastegate activated I didnt see that it was a fix for this vehicle.
Jon,
We will have a close look at the compressor wheel again today.
