Peugeot 207 1.6 HDi 2007 - Misfire on idle #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 1.6

Hi

We have a 207 1.6hdi 16v with a misfire on idle, it improves as the revs go up but it is still there.

Quantity comparison shows cylinder 3 -4 on idle & cylinder 1 +2 cylinders 2 & 4 roughly 0.

We have had injectors checked all came back ok, checked compression all good, checked cam lobes for excessive wear all ok.

Check & cleaned EGR. Only fault codes were for glow plugs which we have fixed.

Any other ideas?

I would get the injectors re-checked. Ring them up and have a word with them. I ended up changing firms due to recon injectors coming back with them saying they are fine it must be something else but we will check them again if you don't believe us. When they returned the second time the engine run great! If you know anyone else who has used your firm ask them how they have got on?

can you scope the injectors? and use an amps clamp if there are any anomalies it will show up
also scope the crank sensor. the live data I have posted is from the same model and running well

I did scope the injectors, I'm not that clued up on diesel injector pattern but they were all about the same & pulling about 20amps. We re-checked compression this time through glow plug holes rather than injector holes and got 360 340 240 220.
I'm thinking that's quite a difference & probably enough to give a problem?

What do you think?

Hi

That variation is not good

Two cylinder showing low compressions on adjacent cylinders can often indicate cylinder head gasket between the two.

Can you do a cylinder leakage test to confirm?

Don't overlook the effect of bore wash can have on compressions as the engine is running poorly.

Using an Amps Clamp is good, but be aware that you are comparing the four Injectors from an electrical stand point and not from a Hydraulic perspective by using this method.

I had thought about cylinder leakage test but that's one bit of kit I've not got. Probably worth my while seeing if I can get one on Monday.

In assume you mean low compression may be down to bore wash due to rough running rather than rough running down to compression?

Is there no way you can connect your shop airline to either your glow plug adaptor or to the hose coupler of the diesel compression gauge.

I've done this before with my Sykes compression tester and just an airline regulated connected directly to the fitting.

But in all fairness you don't need the gauges for a quick test but they are handy to see how much leakage is present.
