Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2.0 HDi RHY 2003 - Non start #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 hdi RHY
( Optional ) ECU Type: siemens
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus pro
( Optional) Fault Codes: no comms

will not start no-comms with engine management but communicates with abs/airbag will lock and unlock with plip
eco mode on central display
no engine management light at all
mileage displays and then goes to service miles then 0.0 if the ignition is turned off
checked all fuses ( all powered up ones with ign on)tried using autodata on line for pin data but seems to be ok
how can I test reliably if the bsi is functioning ok or is it as I suspect the ecu
because the car is 2003 don't really want to throw money at it
any ideas greatfully appreciated

Ignore the fact the plip works that,s only the central locking, also ignore ECO mode, it will come out of that when it start,s.

Checking the live data in the BSI is key, but i,m sure your solus won,t show live data, so it,s down to another (better) scanner.

If the Engine control unit is locked by the immo (BSI)you will have no comms.

thanks kev for reply by better scanner any thoughts ??I can get use of Delphi or autel maxidas any use do you think?the car was driving along and just cut out no missing or petering out just cut out?

Well thats a worry, as that does not sound like an immo/bsi fault.

Check wiring in nsf wheel arch, pull arch liner off.
CAN wires prone for rot here.(red and white twisted pair)
Also check where CAN wires come out of underbonnet fuse/relay box as they can rub through on airfilter housing.
I should have a spare "free running" engine ecu you could borrow.

thanks mark will check wires around arch and i may contact you about the free running ecu i have put the car on autel and it shows permanent fault "non comms betweem bsi and ecu "and scanning right through bsi all else seems ok
yhe maxidas was impressive on this as it was the last time i used on a saab airbag fault when all others fell by the way side

The BSI is also prone to water damage so check carefully. I changed one that looked fine but the windscreen was leaking which ran onto the BSI - quite common.

This is going to sound stupid but our works van had a very similar fault and threw us a real curveball, it turned out one of the front springs had snapped overnight and tripped the inertia fuel cut off (which wasnt easy to spot) and we couldnt get comms either. long shot.

thanks where is the fuel cut off seen loads by the battery but cant see it on here also some one suggested the double relay but cant locate this either
I have pulled nearly every wire from the harness running from the engine bay to the cabin along wing and along the wiper panel but cant see any damage I have just tested the continuity of the can wires from the fuse box (engine bay)to bsi and ecu to bsi all good

Check and load test Powers and grounds and scope CAN/comm lines.
This should give you a direction.

When you checked continuity of CAN lines did you also check for insulation to + & -

fuel cut off switch on ours (2002) is hidden down by the engine mounting timing cover area

ok thanks for all your help a few things to note there is no double relay or cut off switch on the siemens system so ive found out
ive now got a wiring diagram with wire codes and colours courtesy of auto data (its not the easiest to find on there also found in ecu testing a reliable feeds and earths test which ive carried out and theres no feed from the under bonnet fusebox/control unit on wire 1203yellow to the ecu, clutch switch,airflow etc
looking at the diagram of this unit (its quite basic) ive checked the fuses in the unit and the feeds shown and they all seem to be there but still no feed on the 1203 outgoing cable ive tried powering it with apowerprobe but the eml is still not on and the car will not start
im kinda thinking this unit under the bonnet may be faulty but anybody any ideas

have tried a new bsm-b2 underbonnet fusebox and nothing changed at all

Perhaps its time to double check all the power/earth paths and then think about what each component needs to "see" before it will supply the supply/earth path.

have you carried out a Global scan? and if so what was the result?
