BMW X3 2.0d 2006 - Loss of power, codes 4530 & 4521 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 20d4
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus pro

Hi All
Car came in in may with turbo failure (black death in oil feed pipe) replaced electronic turbo and all seemed fine .car has been back a few times with occasional loss of power .No mil lamp on but same code 4530 small turbo deviation and 4521 charge air pressure control. No air leaks or black smoke .Any help please Steve Sneap

Genuine turbo or a cheapy ?

Get it on a better code reader

4530 boost pressure actuator- regulation pressure low.

4521 boost pressure actuator- regulation pressure high.

Hi Kevin, Non Genuine turbo but came from turbo specialist I ve used before, Are you suggesting that these codes mean it is the turbo that is at fault? Turbo supplyer Said switch ign on and watch to see actuator does full sweep in and out and it does. Steve

I,m suggesting your solus is giving the wrong discription of the code, so cannot be trusted, also as this is an inter-mittent problem i can,t see how your turbo supplier could possibly say the turbo actuator is OK by just an ign on full sweep !! So can they be trusted ?

More testing needed. Have you searched the forum ?

Hi kevin ,Could nt find anything on forum ,Live data shows difference between desired and actual turbo pressure Spoke to supplier(ITS Bradford) they have agreed to send new actuator to try . How would you suggest I test further to prove one way or the other? Steve.

I would be using GT1 and it,s link to TIS to follow any testing

What does the snappy helpline tell you.

And i,m surprised your turbo supplier is not more helpful with some tests.

During yesterdays extensive testing including a dpf regen (65%) which failed ,we noticed that the exhaust temp was stuck at 27thousand degrees c .Autodata does not show where this is, found lambda , front and rear pressure sensors but no egt sensor .This is a steep learning curve for us and don't want to give up

27,000 degree,s c !! Checking with another code reader is always a good idea.

now with-out the ch.no i,m thinking M47T2 engine ?

primary cataltic converter temp. sensor is next to lambda and DPF temp. sensor is further down near joint flange, both have wire conncetion,s.

Has this got the flaps in the manifold, is the motor operating flaps ok, worth a look
