BMW 318i 2002 - Misfire #

Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Size and Code *: 2000 N42 B20A
( Optional ) Scanner Used: MAC TOOLS

Hi,
Got this one in today with a misfire.
First thing i noticed was the brake pedal was hard (Little or no servo). Tryed to read fault codes through correct system and i had no comms. Read codes through EOBD and i had camshaft sensor fault(sorry cant remember P code). Any way AD gives me no component locations, so can any one guide me to the sensor locations please so i can scope cam and crank?
Do you think timing is out that's way i got little vacuum?

If it's a diesel isn't it the job of the vacuum pump to produce the vacuum ?
Sorry to point out the obvious but each sensor will be near the component.

I would expect the cam sensor to be in the cylinder-head and the crank sensor to near to one one of the engine block close to the crankshaft.

Shane,
Is this a petrol engine "2000 N42 B20A"its likely you have a split vacuum pipe,or something thats drawing air which would leave no vacuum at servo unit.

Confirm by doing smoke check.

Sorry guys was meant to post it in petrol section.
Reason i ask for locations is because there are lots of sensors/acutators around engine and i just needed a guide to were to look.

At the front of the head a few inches down from the rocker cover in a central position, are the two Vanos solenoids held in place with fork clamps, to the right a couple of inches is the inlet cam sensor,the exhaust cam sensor is a few inches to the left of the vanos solenoids,both sensors fit into a near vertical mounting hole

Is the crank sensor in bell housing.
Sorry for being lazy just been so busy in work haven't had time to get in on lift and have a look.

Valvetronic i assume ? not something to attempt to repair without a good unstanding of how it all works, a diag tool that gives reliable info and a customer with deep pockets.

I would like to join discussion about this system valvetronic . Got one and is keep bringing misfire cyl 2. Compression on /off . Once cylinder compression is ok in few sec there is no compression at all. I thonk it could be va;lvetronic fault. Could anybody give some trikcs and hints on this system.
