BMW 330d M57D30 2001 - Air flow meter fault - Ongoing #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Size and Code *: 3.0 m57d30
( Optional ) Scanner Used: bosch kts

I had this one in for an air flow meter (diagnosed by customers friend luckily) but to be fair I would have come up with the same result. There was one fault code relating to high air flow - can't remember the code now. The new one (bosch 0 928 400 527 came with a note that if it's replacing 0 928 400 314 it needs to be programmed by bmw). The one I took off was 0 928 400 468 & the one I've fitted should supersede both. In live data on idle I have nominal 210m/s, actual 290m/s. On high revs I'm getting nearly 800m/s - more than double nominal value (about the same as the old one) Bmw want £206 for a software update.

Is the EGR system working correctly & clear of blockages ? Loss of EGR for whatever reason will increase MAF,

If not already done you need to check for intake air leaks

Is there an Autologic user near you that could carry out the programming ?

Thanks for the replies, I third that. I should have thought of blocked egr, I think the tech note from bosch threw me a bit. I haven't smoked the inlet yet, wouldn't an air leak cause a low maf? Glyn, I don't know of an Autologic user unless there's one on here in the north Somerset area?

Pre turbo will cause low MAF post turbo can cause High MAF

If you ring Autologic they will be able to tell you if there is a BMW user near to you 01865 870050

Thanks for that Ben, I think I know where you are. I haven't had it back in yet as the customer is using it every day but will be in touch if needed.

Sorry for not updating this one, The last time I spoke to the customer he was very happy with it saying it was far more responsive than before but I still want it back in. I'm sure as Aidan suggested the EGR will be blocked. Can you mark this as ongoing please Peter.
