BMW X3 2.0TD 2007 - Glow plug replacement #

Engine Size and Code *: 2.0td

Just a quick question re Glow plug replacement.

Are these reasonably straightforward once manifold is removed or are they a breakage risk??

From my very limited experience, i.e.the one I did the plugs came out easily.

If you have multiple glow plug faults, suspect a control unit fault. (Hidden away on side of engine and accessed from underneath)
Also bear in mind when testing these they are low voltage plugs so don't use 12 volt power probe.

Just one implicated, but the fault code generated appears to be preventing DPF regeneration (Is this correct??)

I cant say for sure, but would certainly sort out the glow plug next.

After that Careful check on Live data is also needed e.g. engine & exhaust temperatures, DPF pressure, regen status etc

Got round to doing this. Glow plug removal is easy enough once you remove the inlet manifold.

(Note, the glow plug connectors are not the usual push on/Pull off type You need to squeeze the tops to get them to come off)

Took it for a regen which seemed to go ok (Status active, EGT up around 6-700C etc.)

But performance is still flat occasionally.

What sort of back pressure readings should I be getting using a Launch

(It is not clear what units the launch actually uses, I guess it is lost in the Chinese translation. Currently I am getting about 10 "Units" at idle and around 80 with the engine reved but stationary)
