Year of Manufacture *: 2006 Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 CRD ( Optional ) Scanner Used: texa ( Optional) Fault Codes: p0409 BMW 4501
Hi
This one came in with DPF fault code & glow plug x4 fault codes
The glow plug relay fixed the glow plug codes, thought that may effect regen so did that first
Took it for a run and it attempted to regenerate the DPF, but after about 20 miles logged DPF fault again. When I say attempted, the regen the active message on the scanner cycled on and off and exhaust temperature reflected this.
Took the DPF off and washed it out, this made a notable improvement to exhaust pressure. ( Pre clean peak of 750 m/bars and post clean peak of 209 M/bars). It then completed a regen on road test, this time remaining active and constant exhaust temperature for duration ( about 10 miles)
Thought at this point had won the battle, so changed the oil & gave it another road test, rechecked memory and dam thing now logging a fault code EGR system 4501 and EOBD pending code p0409.
We have cleaned and checked (with myti vac) the EGR valve I have check vac pipes and vacuum supply all appears OK. removed EGR cooler and pipework and cleaned. Still logging low flow fault
I have compared MAF readings with known good one ( readings kindly supplied by TBK member) and to me would indicate MAF ok but EGR flow low.
So I am looking for suggestions as to causes for low EGR flow.
sorry for long post
Cheers Aidan

just to add to last post, When removed I noted The EGR valve has a restricter plate insert in the port (from the egr cooler) this has hole from memory from approx 10 mm diameter. Although I noted this had no reason to think it was not OE.
However bit of googling has resulted in a few suggested modifications to reduce EGR which center around fitting a plate and drilling a hole to restrict flow.
The question is, does anyone know if these have such a restriction as standard ?
This is a recent purchase so I have no long term history, however there is evidence that the egr cooler had been off previously (but not recently)
Any thoughts ?
cheers Aidan

Hi
The EGR restriction plate was not OE, vehicle has been OK since removed.
