Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTi 2004 - Difficult to start in the morning #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Size and Code *: 1.7dti

hi everyone this one is difficult to start in the
morning and the customer thinks it's the glow plugs but i don't thing so as this is a direct
injection engine and as such it does't need the glow plugs unless the temperature is below zero what do you think?

Hi George
Is the fuel leaking back to the tank over night?

I think this is the engine with the dodgy injector seals inside the rocker cover that are problematic.

i think you are both refering to the common rail cdti engine. this is the older dti which to my knowledge
does't suffer with this problem

the dti is the engine with injectors under the rocker cover and cam, you can only see pipe unions from outside??

this is the engine that suffers with bad seals but I think they changed to a one piece injector about 2002 ish, so you could be right.

You could check with vauxhall parts and get a picture of injector components

are you saying that failing injector seals are causing loss of cylinder compression?

I have just got in and I am blindo, so forgive me.

In my earlier post I believe I may have been thinking of the 2.0 DTi, with the common inj seal failure

As for this car
Me and Chris are not thinking compression loss.

More like is the fuel system sealed?

chris and james thanks for taking the time to post i am still confused though how can the injector seals make it difficult for the engine to start in the morning?

Have you changed injector leak off pipes,they could be gone hard and drawing air when parked overnight,

You say this is a 1.7 dti so is it a y17dt or a z17dtl/h,2004 is the year change,Common rail or not?

Hi George

We're not talking about the compression seal on the bottom of the injector, but the fuel seal higher up, although we're thinking of the older model so not applicable to this car.

Anyway it does sound like air ingress to the fuel system, you need to be checking where all the joints and seals are, filter housing etc.

Can you fit a clear fuel feed pipe to the filter housing, you might see if air appears as it drains back

Also, have you got the full reg number for this??

hi all this is a 1.7dti 2004 with isuzu engine
and not common rail. i will check for an air leak
if it comes back. thanks for all your replies
