Mazda 5 Diesel 2.0 L8D 2008 - Making oil #

Year of Manufacture *: 2008
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 L8D

Have just had a conversation with a contact about the above engines 'making' oil. Very common problem judging by a quick browse of the web, --no answers though, Anyone have good info on why this is occurring/.

Isnt it to do with the dpf regen cycle? Fuel dilution causing the level to rise a bit, someone mentioned to me that the mazda 6 diesel has two dipstick marks for ma because of this.

Hi Ed, hope you are well? I can`t help with an answer for the Mazda, but I have just done a reflash on a 2008 Saab which the description of the flash was to fix an oil dilution issue, is that not the same as "making oil". This vehicle had already eaten one turbo and was smoking on initial cold start up and yes the oil level was high.

Hi Ed,

On Mazda 6's there is a sticker in the engine bay advising "change oil" when oil reaches a certain point on the dipstick, the mark is about 20mm above max !!

Hi Ed

I looked in to this a couple of years ago but cant find it now, I think if the service reset isn't done it increases the fueling to compensate for poor oil. There is two oil levels on the dipstick one is a good inch or so higher.

dpf is causing oil raising up . Remove the filter and you will get rid f raising oil. Where are you based we could assist you with dpf removal if you would decide go this route.

got a regular customer bought a mazda 6 a few months ago first thing he asked me was to flush and change the oil he cam back last week with the dpf light flashing oil level high up stick so flushed and refilled again and carried out regen with solus pro gone away ok but dont know how long for

last few weeks similar stories mazda5 and mazda 6> They went to dealer for dpf light on - they performed regeneration and engine oil change due to raised level. The problem comes back after few weeks .They decided to remove it.LOL

Heres another thing if the oil reset is not done you get a flashing dpf light after service.

Paul as Roy said the counters need resetting otherwise it will be back Snappy offers this, if DPF light is flashing clear fault code 'DPF regen' then reset the oil counters under engine additional functions or something of the like

but as I see the problem in the thread was about 'making oil' . I dont think oil raise up because not resetted counters. I know my english is poor , maybe I misunderstand but in my opinion oil level raise up because dpf filter being in regeneration mode - and adding extra fuel in exhaust stroke.

Piotr is right,
There are only two ways of supposedly keeping DPFs clean, one is by Eolysis (ad blue) additive and the other , which the rest of the VMs have followed is passive and active regeneration-with varying degrees of success.
The rest of the VMs regen with additional injection on the exhaust stroke,adjusting air flow and egr to clean without filling the sump up with diesel fuel. I believe there are some Mazdas out there which require draining after as little as a thousand miles--whats this about??, it makes the car unfit for purpose.
The post on the Fiat 500 which looks like it destroyed itself for similar reaons to the above, Nissan Qashqai which are sold as the ultimate'Urban'vehicle, but will completely block the dpf if driven regularly in an 'urban' environment,--all make me think that we are going to see a lot more of these problems until they change their strategy on clean diesel exhaust.
Removing the dpf, whilst getting rid of the immediate problem,is not the answer, we as professionals should be thinking of the impact diesel emissions have on the future.

*now rhere's a debate!!

To avoid confusion, There is NO similarities between Eoysis additive / system used by peugeot etc and the AD Blue / system used mainly on trucks.

Hello Aidan,
I was thinking the same about the ad blue comment. It was suggested at the Top tech live conference that ad blue may be the next step to cleaner emissions used together with the eolys system, which looked a very complex system.

The eolys fuild is for certian vehicles fitted with a DPF and the ADD-BLUE is used in vehicles that have a SCR system fitted.

The DPF is for dealing with PM (soot to me and you)

The SCR system is a totally seperate system that deals with NOx

Might be of interest.

I believe another method that Renault used a few years ago was an injector fitted directly in the exhaust (fifth injector).

I assume this prevented the oil dilution problem but I think it was only ever fitted to vehicles in France and never made it onto any UK vehicles.

Yes a common fitment in some parts of the world.

Bosch call it De-partronic with the "part" bit standing for particulate.

Having done a bit more research into the above, It appears that Biodiesel does not vapourise as well as conventional diesel, this has a double effect-because it does'nt burn as well as normal diesel it is more likely to end up in the sump and also not burning as well means that we have much lower exhaust gas temperatures and therefore much poorer regeneration.
So another part of diagnosis should be--where do you get your diesel from.

When buying normal Diesel at the pumps, I have noticed signs saying

"This Diesel contains a percentage of Biodiesel"

Does anyone know if all of the fuel companies add a certain amount of biodiesel? and if so do they all add the same percentage or does it vary between companies?

I believe this refers to the EN590 standard. I understand that all EN590 fuel contains a maximum percentage of bio, I cannot remember if its 5 or 10% but I am sure someone on here will know.

I believe its 5% at present growing to 10% soon.

Some parts of Europe are already at 10% as far as I know.

Hello Mark.
I realise the difference between the two, but it was suggested that both systems may be used together in the future with an SCR catalyst using add blue to reduce NOX after the particulate treatment,but i can't remember whether it would only be used on particulate systems not using eolys or with eolys.

We have been selling Diesel from our rural filling station for a couple of years now and had to have our fuel tanks check for the presents of water from condensation in our fuel tanks as the Bio Diesel will bring the water from the bottom of the tanks with it. Also be aware that you should be using a barrier type fuel hose now as the Bio Diesel degrade rubber. Look it up on the internet...........

One of my local 'big name' filling stations has a notice on the diesel pump that it contains 7% biodiesel and I read on some Renault paperwork that any fuel related warrenty issues will be rejected if the biodiesel content is found to be above 6%

I have a 2008 Fiat 500 that has destroyed itself in this way after only 16,000 miles
The DPF light came on and the lady sat on her driveway revving the engine up for 15 mins instead of driving it

The next time she drove it it ran away with itself, scared her half to death and ran until it was destroyed.
It seems to have added itro 2.5 litres of fuel into the oil
