Hi Ed, hope you are well? I can`t help with an answer for the Mazda, but I have just done a reflash on a 2008 Saab which the description of the flash was to fix an oil dilution issue, is that not the same as "making oil". This vehicle had already eaten one turbo and was smoking on initial cold start up and yes the oil level was high.
