Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 X10XE 2004 - Non start - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Size and Code *: 1.0lt x10xe
( Optional ) ECU Type: Bosch
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Op com

Hi,
Got this one in a few weeks ago, would cut out after running for a while. Fault code for crankshaft sensor, scopped sensor showed fault so replaced. Still the same after fitting sensor and same code reappearing, checked Timing chain timing, wiring to ecu from sensor, checked lives and earths to ecu, diagnosed ecu fault.
Ordered secondhand reset ecu with security code and programmed in . Still none start but this time no comms to instrument cluster. I got local auto electrician in to see what he could find, he has checked all wiring including can bus and has even bypassed the canbus. So he said it must be the cluster or bcm. I ordered a complete secondhand kit which included ecu,bcm,instrument cluster,immobiliser . After fitting Complete kit the car is the same, the comms for the cluster just keep on dropping in and out with op com.
Any ideas please ?

Doesn't it log any fault codes in any other ecu relating to comms issues with ipc.

Can you see if there is any common earth for any of the ecu's.

Could be a problem with the cluster connector but i think 2004 is probably a modified type.

I'd suggest to test power/grounds at ipc when it loses comms and test CAN with a scope.

I would refit the original bcm and ipc but use the 2nd hand engine ecu. Reset/regrogram the bcm and ipc as you can pull the security code with op-com for both ecu sets.

You did get the matching transponder chip with the used ecu set didn't you?

Hi all,
Not sure what he was doing but basically he said he has tested everything possible so he,s stuck!
Lee he has swapped all old and replacement control units around and still no joy. Sorry don't know code only that it,s to do with comms error with instrument cluster, and it is modified connection on back.

no code only discription(read with my mach vci this morn). in instrument cluster CAN comms general fault, CAN to body comms signal.
in BCM CAN to instrument cluster.

What happened to the op-com.

The best way forward would be a global read with
Tech 2/MDI.

As you have changed so many unit, it would point to CAN wiring, but a good code would help.

Hi Kev,
OP-COM is the auto electrician's. He said he has by passed the can wires so it can,t be them.
Does that sound right can you bypass them?
I will scope them myself i think.

Are you sure you haven't got any fuse issues, as far as i'm aware CAN faults doesn't actually mean a network fault as a power/ground fault can cause CAN network error codes.

I'd remove and manually test every fuse just to be sure as times i've missed the obvious.

CAN isn't something i'm really experienced with but how does only the ipc & bcm log CAN faults as the engine ecu uses CAN to exchange data such as temperature to the ipc and posdibly vehicle speed signal via abs if fitted.

Not sure how easy it is to access bcm harness but could it be possible to temporarily run new can wires between ipc & bcm to see if CAN responds.

Hi All,
The auto elec did run new wires to by pass old can line, thats why he said the cans is fine. Lee Getting p1616 from engine ecu?
Mark I,ll scope today i,m pretty new to pico scope so ill see what i get!

that fault code iirc is for wrong id from instrument cluster.

p1615 - wrong id from body control module
P1616 - wrong id from istrument cluster

If it was a body control module error i'd have thought the engine ecu would log P1615 as well.

scope patterns of can h and l .i have scoped at mods. first pattern is ecu,then cluster then bcm.
looks like the can to ecu faulty, but this is first time ive scope can.

unplug the engine ecu and see what the pattern looks like.

Was the scope grounded properly in your first capture?

Im no CAN expert but worth a try.

No offence intended but, more evidence like this in your posts will lead to quicker fixes.

Hi There I have had a similar fault on a Vauxhall combo which is a similar system. The instrument cluster earths through a connection by the side of the handbrake lever and I had an intermittent non start caused by a loose connection here. This caused the engine ECU to log a communication error with the cluster and would not let the engine start. It would only take a few seconds to check.

Hi again,
Sorted instrument cluster fault, It was faulty pin on cluster connection and faulty ecu. All ecu ,bcm,cluster and immobilizer programmed in. But still will not start, Fault codes now are P0650 malfunction indicator malfunction, p0335(c)crankshaft sensor circuit a and p0335 (4) crank sensor circuit a. Have checked engine timing and have fitted new crank sensor.
Please have a look at scope patterns of crank, cam and crank and cam. have scoped at ecu plug to check wiring same time.
Any ideas please?

Have you tried running a seperate earth to the engine ECU, one taken straight from the battery to one of the ECU mount bolts will do. I've had numerous corsa's/combo's where this has sorted a non start situation !

I have tried the earth to ecu but no joy.
I,m fitting new chain today as it was very slack and timing was out a little bit, not enough not to start though, well I don't think so any way.
Got tis 2000 in post so will work through code when arrive .

Just an update,
Fitted new chain but to know joy still getting p0335 crank sensor position a .
I have followed procedure on tis and it is telling me that the ecu is faulty, but I have tested the original and fitted a secondhand unit, there is no rpm in live data so it's a sensor fault, the wiring down to sensor is ok and I have scoped to plug on ecu and that's ok.
I have ordered engine loom to see if this cures it, thinking pins in plug on ecu faulty?
Any other ideas?
Let you know when fitted.

I'm a little confused, you've tested the wiring to the ckp sensor which is good and tested at the ecu plug which is also good so why are you opting to replace the loom.

Have you unplugged the ecu connector and scoped the ckp sensor at the plug pins. Its an inductive sensor isn't it so should still see a pattern with the ecu disconnected unless it wont crank over with ecu unplugged.

Hi all,
Lee I,m thinking it,s a bad contact on pins on plug going to ecu. I scooped to pins with plug off and I get good pattern.
Mark the code is p0335 (4) crank position sensor signal a It will show up after clearing if you attempt to start it for 10 secs.
If you look on live data there is no rpm and rpm on cluster doesn't move.

A list of sub-codes is also on TIS.

does thishave a manual box ?

I still think a code read of all systems with Tech2/MDI would be a good idea, which won,t list a x10xe on a 2004.

I have read all control units and I have had a copy of tis 2000.
It tells me ecu failure!
And I know it,s z10xep. Just mistake when I posted.
It,s manual box .

Shane,

I thought you'd tried another ecu though, unlikely but possible i suppose to have 2 faulty ecu's.

Your best bet is to speak to Allvox, ask for Chris Millington and he'll sort you out with a known good ecu.

The only problem is you may need a diag tool to align it with the immobiliser unless Chris can do this for you.

He may do a test/purchase option as well.

Hi Shane
Did you scope the crank sensor at the ecu or the sensor, it might help to scope it at the ecu in case you have a broken wire etc,

Hi,
Lee I have had 2 ecu. 1 on its own with security code and the other as a kit with bcm, cluster and immop, I tried all compo,s put no joy. I don't think it,s possible to have 3 faulty ecu that's including original . I have op com which can programme so that's not an issue.
Collin I scoped at ecu and sensor, both good.
Had wrong loom today so still waiting for right one.

Earlier i asked what happened to op-com and you said it was the AE,s,

So if you have up-graded to op-com WHY not tell us you have, and not leave us to guess.
The same goes with the engine code.

Hi,
I scoped crank sensor at sensor and used 2nd channel to scope at ecu and there was a difference in pattern so there must be a damaged wire. I had the new wiring loom delivered Friday so I popped it on today and yippee it run perfectly.
Thank you to mark carter for his advice on our telephone conversion a very help full nice gentleman .

Hope I don't get to many more of these jobs or I think I will retire I,m only 37!
