Year of Manufacture *: 2005 Engine Size and Code *: 1.6 TDCI ( Optional ) Scanner Used: MODIS ( Optional) Fault Codes: P0234
Hi guys
Looking for a bit of info from someone i have i focus 16tdci with a p0234 overboost code occuring under hard acceleration i initially though the turbo vanes could be sticking so have used innotec turbo clean on it as it is quite an easy task on these this hasnt helped. on driving the car i have noted the boost pressure reaches 249 kpa which looks like maximium pressure and shortly after, the code is flagged and limp mode set, i have noted that when the car is started vaccuum at the vane actuater is just over 20 in hg which if my understanding is correct this pulls the vanes into position to create boost, on driving the vehicle i find once boost pressure is getting close to 249 kpa vaccuum is reduced at the vane actuater again if my understanding is correct this is the ecm trying to operate vanes to reduce boost, however vaccuum is only reduced to 10 in hg which is were my question lies does this sound right im thinking that i should be seeing 0 in hg to move vains fully in the 'off' position. and if so suspect a fualty solenoid i have spoken to ford technical but they dont have the info
sorry for the long post any help appriecated lee

Have you looked at the boost solenoid (rear of engine). I've had 2 of these, with the same fault code. First was due to somebody installing the pipes incorrectly (if you remove the solenoid it actually says on them, which pipe goes where). The second was due to an oil leak soaking the vacuum pipes, making them go soft, and leaking under duress.
