Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 Y20DTH 2004 - Loss of power, code P0243 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 Y20 DTH
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Snap On
( Optional) Fault Codes: p0243

Hi

I have code P0243 for boost pressure solinoid valve,loss of power & not reving over 2500rpm.Vacumn to valve is good but none to turbo. Turbo is free to turn.Solinoid has a 12v feed but no earth at any time. Tried another valve which is known to be good but made no difference. Checked the earth wire for continuity through engine harness as far as possible. No engine managment light on only the electronics symbol. After clearing the codes it stays on without starting the engine.

Any input would be appreciated.

hi gary your 12v feed to the soleniod is correct
the other wire is controlled earth from pinB97 of the ecm you need to check integrity of all ecm earth paths,including that wire youll probably have to check pwm of this wire with scope on a road test to estabilsh its correct operation,
i may stand corrected on this but from memory the earth path should be on at idle & only regulate when turbo control is required,ie at upper limits hth keith.

Doesn't your scantool do a component activation test on the solenoid valve.

If the solenoid clicks on scanner command then i'd think the ecu is ok, so it could be a sticking solenoid valve.

You definatly need to scope the PWM signal at the solenoid sounds like you have an issue there.

As far as I know the PWM signal is constant and if you have a constant 12v on both pins to the solenoid sounds to me like the PWM wire is open/short circuit?

As Lee and Carl have said, scope it whilst running a actuator function via your diagnostic tool.

Post your findings and we can advise from there.

Hi, thanks to everyone for your help and advice. Traced fault to fuel pump ecu. Although all feeds and earths to fuel pump correct, no pwm at output for boost pressure solenoid. Suspect fault with internal circiut or processor chip. Unfortunately due to poor initial design, unrepairable and will now require replacement fuel pump.

Watch out as fitting / coding PSG 16 units is sometimes not straight forward.

it ain't necessarily so, as they say.

repaired one of these for with is exact fault a couple of years ago for me, from memory it cost a couple of hundred quid or so plus vat.
