Proton Persona 2.0 TD 1998 - Poor cold starting #

Year of Manufacture *: 1998
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0TD

As above, If key is cycled 2 or 3 times (Glow light) starts first compression!

Seems that glows are not staying on for long enough (Before light goes out).

Does anybody have a wiring diagram/stratagy description for the glow system on this??

AD does acknowledge that this vehicle actually has an engine under the bonnet but little more than that!!

Which engine are they using in this, sounds like its getting a hot engine message to the glow relay

How many temp senders can you see ?

2.0 TD, It is a mitsubishi unit.

There is one CTS and a separate temp guage sender.

Disconecting the CTS results in longer glow time and engine starts first turn. Unfortunatly CTS seems to controll everything else as well and engine doesnt like it off so leaving it disconnected (and old trick from simpler times ;-) ) will not work in this case.

Cold resistance appears to be around 2.8K But since AD has no D on this I do not know if this is reasonable or not.

(Thinks, possible solution may be to simply wire in an old fashioned glow plug relay like I have on my VW van when I converted it to diesel)

But it would be nice to achieve a "Proper" fix...

A change over relay & extra resistor wired into CTS circuit is a dodge that may work & extend life of an old banger !

that might work.

Its just as pity that there isnt something that one could twiddle to extend glow plug time easily....

I have often found that temperature sensitve glow controllers seem a bit overenthusiastic at switching off quickly if they dont think it is cold enough, especially as engines/starters/batteries etc age and, whilst still perfectly servicable, may no longer have the crispness of their youth...
