Peugeot 407 2.0 RHR 2006 - Starts, ticks over, will not rev cuts out after 20 seconds, blue smoke #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0L 16v deisel RHR
( Optional ) Scanner Used: SOLUS PRO

Hi found that egr valve was at fault & replaced it with second hand valve tested & working before fitted,starts runs & revs now smoke gone but has surge on low revs under load and scanner says egr valve learing.Does the replacement valve need to be reprogramed,can i do this with solus pro or is it a dealer job.

Not sure about the egr learn thing, i wouldnt of thought that it would kill the engine and make blue smoke though...but i could be wrong.

The symptoms reminds me of a fault we had with a 607 2.2 hdi peugeot, the inlet butterflys which there is 2 of (peugeot call them dozer units) 1 flap is sprung in the open position and 1 is sprung closed, when started up from cold the intercooler feed side is closed and the warmed air bypass side is open , this is for lower emmissions on start up (i think).
On our car the warm air bypass flap wasnt opening so in this case both flaps where closed and no air could get in the engine and it would blue smoke and then cut out.

On the 607 the butterflys are vaccum operated via vac solenoids , a think on the 407 they are electronic butterfly control, just something to check.

cheers thought same myself blew 150 on new doble dozer but still wouldnt run till fitted egr.

Will have a look on peugeot autologic tomorrow and see if egr has to be learned, i know on alot of cars now the ecm has to learn the closed position of the egr.

Maybe if the ecm doesnt see enough air mass reading because of a open egr it will affect how it runs ??
I know on the later vauxhall diesels if you dont have the air mass connected into the trunking to the inlet they wont start or rather they start then cut out straight away , found this out just doing routine air filter changes .

Sorry for the long post or if it's not quite your symptoms had a C4 RHR 18 months ago.

P0490 - Exhaust gas recycling electric valve position copy signal (Valve closed too much)
Valve closed too much [Not Present]

Replaced stuck egr valve & carried out re programing with dec.
But the surging remained.
What does your live data say?

My problem seemed to start from about 1200rpm light throttle.
The recorded turbo pressure rises above setting level, & egr is constantly pulsing fully open & closed upto about 3500rpm ( with high afm readings ).
If the vacuum to turbo wastegate is interupted there also is no pulsing because of the lowered air pressure.

It was caused by the turbo position sensor.
It should be no more than 12% KOEO and go to min of 95% under full vac

hi took to dealers for reprograming of egr job done drives well now.fixed and gone.
