Looking for some advice on this one - everytime you turn the key it will start and cut out. Always brings back code P0335 for the crank sensor. Previous garage had already changed crank and cam sensors. In live data no engine speed however engine speed is in the automatic gearbox and shows up on the dash. This car has the engine ECU and a separate injection control unit. The crank and CAM sensor both go to the ICU and I have scoped them - both are correct. However, the ICU generates engine speed signal and sends it to PIN 57 on the engine ECU this signal is there but I believe it is incorrect. It is a digital signal the engine ECU puts out 12 volts and the ICU switches it to negative. Autodata shows it as a 12 volt digital signal however on this car it's only 2.5 volts. I have cut the wire to pin 57 and used a sensor simulator and the engine ECU recognises it and shows engine speed in live data also the 12 volts are present with the ICU disconnected and ignition on and I have proved the wiring is ok. To me this points towards a faulty ICU but could it be that its a non-start strategy due to a timing error? Or perhaps the other two fault codes that appear P1700 transmission failed to engage neutral and P0500 vehicle speed sensor (which as the car is an automatic it doesn't have) are influencing the readings? Has anyone seen this before? Also on the gear-selector when you select a gear should the indicator on the gate show red? (IDS appears to say it should?)The only other code is in the dash U2200, possibly linked? The dash panel shows which gear is selected correctly but nothing shows on the selector, is this correct? p.s I have also re-flashed the engine ICU and gearbox - it didn't make any difference
Have had similar to this on a 52 plate mondeo with the seperate injector ecm .
A few things to test , has the cam sensor got a 5v feed or 12v feed ..if its 5 volts there was a mod to change it too 12 volts , i carnt remember where i saw it .......sum ford tech bulliten somewhere ??
Thre is a modified cam sensor for this engine, i think its only availiable from dealer , i think the modified one is grey and non modified is black or it could be other way round (sorry to be a bit sketchy it was over a year ago )
You say you have scoped cam and crank sensor, have you another vehicle to compare waveforms with ??
Is the crankshaft sensor all the way home , on the manual gearboxes the bracket that the crank sensor bolts into is elongated it could be to far away from the trigger points on the flywheel ,it doesnt move up and down much maybe 5mm but it makes a big change in amplitude on the signal
Thanks for your help Lee This is a capture of the mondeo cam v crank and the suspect rpm output from the icm to the pcm, in green at only 2.5v. Auto data shows 12v and with a simulator in its place i can then see engine speed in live data. I think the cam and crank look ok but I have not got a good one to compair timing with. thanks for looking Alan.
