hi does anybody know of a firm or person who can repair or supply just the electronic wastgate controller. thank george.

We have changed a few of these turbo units george. the actuator cant be bought seperate or repaired. give the turbo centre a call they may have a good actuator off a bad turbo. ask for andy or craig. 01924 404112

Hi George,

These turbos do not have a wastegate controller as they do not have a wastegate. They do however have an electronic boost control actuator, which is an electronic device operating on CAN that controls the vanes Of the Variable geometry turbo.

These actuators can be repaired, according to a company called "ECU Testing" in Nottingham, I have never tried them so don't hold your breath.

As far as I know, these actuators are matched exactly to the turbo, and Garratt only supply them as a matched pair.

Hi George,
I have got a BMW to do soon which is the same or similar Garratt turbo. I have a copy of the BMW fitting instructions which tell me that it has not got a position sensor and feedback is via the boost pressure sensor. This means that no base setting is required. I have been told that if the turbo and actuator are separated the whole assembly must be replaced. I am not sure how correct that is but it may be the case that the company Mike is suggesting repair them as a complete unit. The one I have to do is because of a noisy turbo not an actuator fault. What I am a bit confused about is that they are controlled by PWM, but vane movement is done via a worm gear? Seems an odd set up to me.

Thanks guys for info, and yes you are all correct in what you say, but customer did not have the money for new turbo etc, just for a matter of interest, I found a Garrett supplier who could test these actuators, he had one that was OK. He agreed to sell me it but said they were matched to turbo. Fitted it, and it works OK, much better than before !!. lol.

Thanks again.
