Audi A3 TDI BXC 2006 - Instrument cluster coding #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
Engine Code or CC *: BXC
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Vag-Com

Hi all this A3 came in on a truck. It would start and run for a few seconds and cut out.
A full scan came back with no Com's to or from the instrument cluster and the immobiliser. I scoped the can-bus and found a faulty connection on the can high to the cluster.However after the repair and scoping to test the can bus still no comms.The cluster has been sent for repair and i,m told the board was fried and has been replaced. Unfortunately all data has been lost and i need to know if i will be able to re-code the instrument cluster and immobilizer when i get it back tomorrow. If so can anyone tell me how to retrieve the immobilizer code from the ecm and the procedure to code the immobilizer and inst. cluster.

Hi Allan

A few things of interest here, mainly what caused the DPI (dash) to get fried in the first place?
Has it possibly been caused by a recovery jump start after the original non start condition in which case once the dash is working again are you back to the original fault?
Or if you start the car will it fry the dash again?

You cant retrieve the required PIN with VAG-COM so if this is needed then you're stuck. Autologic or possibily your local locksmith can get this for you.

Personally I avoid DPI repairs and the programming issues you now have are part of the reason for this.
You dont know whats been removed,possibily part programmed before,what data needs replaced or if you'll have any compatability issues?
Too much important info to be messing about with for me.

you can only program a new cluster to an 8P A3, the only way to code is with VAS5051/2 with online connection, if you try by dubious methods you will end up having to replace the engine ecu & lock set as well.

Not true, Autologic can do this also.

Allan,

I assume this is immo4, the change happened in 2006.

Ask whoever “repaired” the cluster if they still have the old board. It is quite possible to retrieve the code from these so, unless the processor is burnt, someone will be able to get the code for you. If you post your location someone may be able to point you in the direction of a capable person. To all intents and purposes the repaired unit is second hand and to code a used cluster on these you need the code from that too.

The repairer didn’t really do you any favours. They would have been better off telling you they couldn’t do anything with the old unit.

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies.It seems i "misunderstood" the repairer as the damaged unit has been returned un-repaired and only a fee for testing has been applied.He informed me that the damage could only be caused by a spike e.g. jump start or by faulty diagnostic equipment being used (possibly mileage correction!)
The customer turned up with a used cluster and no information from the donor vehicle so i told him it was useless and he needed to buy a new unit and i will get it coded by the local locksmith (who has contacted Audi to confirm that he can do it)
I now await his return with the new unit when he returns from Pakistan.
My gut feeling is telling me to send the customer to the dealer as he assures me that he has not done any of the things mentioned above and I'm concerned that the new cluster will fry upon powering up.I will keep you posted

If Autologic can do this fine you have some come back if somthing goes wrong, as for Locksmith I would just confirm he has VAS5052/A & online connection. I am repiring these cars after the use of dubious kit at an alarming rate.
