Honda 2.2 CDTi (N22A1) 2005 -Non start after engine change - Fixed #

Engine Code or CC *: 2200
( Optional ) ECU Type: Bosch
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Modis

After recovering a sick honda accord with no4 conrod through block we supplied and fitted recon engine supplied from ebay unfortunently now i am very sick of it, there is no injectors switching at all hence will not start vehicle tries to run on easy start, checked timing, compression, all earths and feeds to ecu, took to dealers to check immobiliser found all ok swaped high pressure pump fit second hand ecu and had recoded dealers now suggessting something wrong with crank sensor drive plate have scoped this and pattern looks good to me can anyone suggest anything else I have uploaded scope for crank sens please loosing a lot of sleep over this one thanks in adv

Does it log any fault codes? Do you get any fuel pressure readings in live data? Have you scoped the cam sensor? Where does the crank sensor pick up its signal from? For instance, could it be the wrong flywheel?

Hi peter checked fuel pressure this morning with scope goes up to around 1.5v on cranking engine which I think is ampel crank sensor drives off front end at crank I scoped the cam and crank this morning and come ip with this pattern think maybe a timing issue with cam and crank drive plates could you take a look see what you think and no fault codes for anything else stored thanks again

At least you've proved that the cam sensor is working.

In my experience, its always difficult to interpret cam vs crank signals to ascertain cam timing faults with out having a know good trace to use as an example. I would of thought though, that the ecu would of logged a fault code if it recognized that the sensors were out of synch'

Does your modis not give you live data for fuel pressure? It would be useful to check what the ECU is actually seeing.

And..... I was talking to a friend of mine last night who works for Honda. He mentioned that these engines can be a real pig to start when new, as the hydraulic tappits drain down. Apparently, you have to crank them for ages and it will gradually start to pick up on cylinder at a time.

He also mentioned fuel pressure, as its very easy to leave the drive pin out of the fuel pump shaft when assembling it on to the engine. HTH.

Oh, and do you know what caused the original failure? Did the oil pump drive chain fail? If it did, he mentioned that its probebly taken the turbo out as well due to loss of oil pressure.

Have tried to tow start vehicle so think this would overcome tappet problem, also fit second high pressure pump and yes ensured key drive was fitted and has been both times, no 4 conrod went through block on original engine pump drive chain was still in tact, also read pressure for fuel rail on cranking ecu side 1.5 volts on cranking thanks again peter

Have now found fault with vechicle I kept geting a reoccuring cam sensor fault with vechicle and no injectors switching from ecu checked all wiring found all ok scoped cam crank but had no pattern to compare it to, in end bit the bullet and stripped out timing completely which I had allready checked timing marks which were aligned on pulleys compared to old engine and found cam with broken woodruff key and timing had slipped hence cam sensor fault retimed up put back together running fine now I have included a scope pattern and pic to see if this can help anyone in future and wont be buying another engine there as they offered no compensation what so ever thanks again everyone.

Tried several times to take that pic but there aint much room down a bulk head on a honda accord but i am sure you can see what has happend with it
