    Rover 75 CDTI 2003 -Smokes like a Battleship - Fixed # Archived Message

    Heavy oil consumption heavy smoke under load (And I mean eye-watering smoke you cant see your hand through!)

    What I discovered is high crankcase pressure due to completely blocked PCV filter in housing next to injectors.

    This has been dealt with but it still smokes. I am guessing that, even if I have resolved the issue, it may still take a while to clean itself out (as it were)

    Now, this was all a bit of an emergency. and the car has gone back to Yorkshire courtesy AA (I didn't think it would be wise to do a 300 mile motorway journey without being "Sure" that I had fixed the problem).

    Now, the questions are;

    a) How would this cause it to burn so much oil? (I am guessing that the high crankcase pressure was forcing oil past the oil control rings to be burned in the cylinders)

    b) There is "some" oil in the bottom of the inter-cooler (but only about 1/8" ) so I am assuming that the turbo is likely to be OK, Is this a reasonable assumption?

    c) Are there any other things I should warn the owner about, (Other than take it easy until, hopefully, the oil smoke clears so as to avoid making the engine run on the residual oil)
