Hello, Thanks Tony and Vince for input,according to a tech i know at nissan,This particular engine does not suffer from timing chain wear.The symtoms with this vehicle are of an intermittant nature. We worked the appropriate wiring to the crank sensor on thursday and found we could re produce the fault,So dismantled as required to gain better access to loom for closer inspection.No obvious problems were evident,no chafing,loom routed very neatly and all in proper brackets. Now in a better postion to work the loom the engine was started and now unable to bring on problem.Left vehicle for a few hours and repeated procedure,Engine ran erattic and illuminated engine check light logging crank sensor.Sourcing some sceened cable we renewed a section of cable where we considered the problem was contained. However after a 20 mile run the light was back on. We decided to test directly at the ecu edge connector,accessing and removing the ecu is not a nice job,Hooked up the scope and thankfully the fault manifested itself,very erattic running and tacho all over the place.Strangely the scope did not show an implausible signal that i expected to see.However a descision was made to run in a complete dedicated crank sensor circuit using high quality 2 wire screened cable. I have now run the car for 3 days without a glitch so its looking good at the moment,but do not want to post a fix premature. Regards Trevor |
