This 2004 Freelander was presented to me as a hard starter. It starts well every time for me & the customer says that it sometimes takes 5 to 10 seconds to fire up. What I did find is that it that when the revs are increased to around 2000 RPM it starts to run rough & blue smoke badly from the tailpipe. Performance on the road is quite acceptable. There are no DTC's. Smooth running figures & injector compensation figures all look fine
Initially I suspected dodgy fuel so it was drained & brimmed with BP Optima (I think that’s what its called) but that has made no difference. The depression limiter valve has been replaced also, with no improvement.
Here is a capture of the pre-supply pump current (pump under offside rear wheel arch)….
I compared the cam/crank waveform to good one that I have in my collection & there is a difference, although I am not confident that it is enough to cause a problem. I welcome the opinion of others on this
