    The three pin plug on the alternator should have a 12v feed (battery sense wire), warning light wire (switched thru relay by the ecu when engine running is deteted) & a DFM output back to the ecu.
    If the battery sense wire has a voltage drop on it the alternator will over charge but the light will not come on untill about 15.5V, if the battery sense looses its feed completly the unit will put the battery light on but continue to charge between 14.6-15.00V.

    I would check the battery sense wire for a bad connection in the loom plug or a voltage drop.
