Hi Paul. P0638 is refering to the Throttle position sensor on the throttle housing, This is operated by a vacuum solenoid, and i think it closes as the EGR opens. ??

We had one that The Dealers had Condemned the vehicle as being not worth repairing. as it was going to cost too much. They Obviously had no Idea what was wrong with it. ( or were pulling a fast one ) . ??

It was then sent to us to Repair at Any Cost. ( unusual request in Barnsley )

We got it in and Refitted the EGR valve linkage that had been removed, But The light kept coming on, We then fitted a New EGR valve which cured half of the problem. After a bit of searching, we found out that someone had blocked off the Throttle valve Actuator Vac pipe with a Ball Bearing. ? We removed the Bearing and the car went away running perfectly and hasn't returned.

Isn't it funny how people do stuff like that, Shove a Bearing in a pipe, disconnect the EGR and then don't realise why the light comes on next time they use the car. ???

I think that they must have thought that it was a good idea to Stop the EGR system from working, to stop the manifold from getting clogged with carbon. ???

So check vacuum to Throttle actuator and check actuator with a Mity vac type pump. Make sure throttle flap isn't sticking closed. or it will be a flat as a Fxxrt.

    H.T.H. Tony.
