Ford Transit 2.4 Di 2000 - Starts ok, but starts to misfire over 1800 rpm # Archived Message

    hi all

Engine starts from cold O K & will tickover fine, if you try to rev it up, gets to about 1800 revs & starts to misfire & run rough, try to return to idle & it cuts out, but will restart & tickover OK, let it idle for 5 - 10 mins & it will run & drive fine.

We have replace fuel filter, checked fuel pipes & vac tested to try & eliminate air ingress & fuel shortage, problem still there. Check codes & all clear

I removed air intake pipe at manifold & it sounds a bit as if it is blowing / banging back into the intake when the problem occurs, Thinking possible valve lifters jacking, blocked exhaust (would not expect exhaust to be cold only issue ?) or sticking valve, any body had any history of these issues ?????

We removed & checked / cleaned EGR valve, looks OK

I have put some oil flush through & changed the oil, but wont know if any better until tomorrow.

There is NO excessive noise from the chain area, but I know these are a issue on these, (millage 75000) Do these symptoms point to chain, ?? would not expect such a vast difference fro cold to hot myself.

I rang ford tech helpline, there only suggestion leak on intake manifold, suggested checking with carb cleaner !

    Any thoughts, thanks Aidan
