I take it this is an N47 engine ?
(I have had a really bad experience with these engines but thats another story 
)
You say the turbo could do with replacing.
Are you sure it hasn't been ingesting engine oil from the turbo? (they don't like it).
Have you done a crompresion test?
These engine do have inherent problems.
