Many years ago, I had a citroen ZX 1.9D with similar problems on a motorway run, but I applied the brakes to bring the engine speed down each time. The oil was getting into the inlet manifold through the breather system, it was a tired engine with some blow-by. I was going to install a catch tank to prove the problem but I think I sold the car before I got round to doing that.
