AA/RAC drained the tank, put in some diesel and attempted to purge the petrol remaining.
Vehicle dropped off to a local garage who purged more petrol from the system.
I was then asked to take a look. Whilst towing the car up to my workshop attempts to tow start the car showed that it was trying but clattering quite badly. Rather than destroy the thing tow starting it I thought it wise to do some basic checks first. Still loads of petrol contamination in the fuel rail, so I pulled more fuel through, seems like there's good diesel there now. Unfortunately the car now makes no attempt to start.
Fault codes that were originally present were
P0341 Cylinder reference sensor no signal.
P1168 Fuel pressure control solenoid loop difference check implausible.
P1207 Fuel pressure regulator current too high.
P1163 No resetting by accelerometer, no periodic injector resetting.
After my work and resetting the fault memory the code that returns is the P1168. I have removed, cleaned and checked the fuel pressure regulator solenoid for free operation.
The P1163 appears to return if tow starting is attempted and the accelerator is pressed, I believe it relates to accelerator pedal signal implausible.
The fuel pressure rises promptly to the target pressure and holds for some time.
When cranked the engine makes no attempt to fire.
Is it likely that the P1168 code inhibits injector operation? Or am I looking elsewhere.
There appears to be no metal contamination of the injectors at their fuel unions.
The trouble with a car of this age is how far to go before declaring it uneconomical to repair.
Too cap it all the customer's wife is getting in the ear from his wife for killing her car so as a result he's calling me frequently trying to deflect her attention away from himself.I did tactfully explain that Diesels are not meant to run on petrol and that was not my fault.
