Thought I had blocked air filter box - all ok.
Had a chance to look at a Range Rover V8 diesel and scoped both the MAF sensors and they decreased as well so this must be Land Rover norm, but my response on V6 was sluggish when driving.
Smoked the intake to check pipework to turbo and found small leak at a joint so fitted hose clip to seal.
MAF value at idle with EGR still blanked was 14 g/s. I wasn't sure what a good reading should be on one of these but comparing to smaller capacity diesels I felt it was a bit low.
I was then able to borrow a known good MAF off an identical vehicle - drove well.
Just fitted new MAF (£114.25+vat from LR dealer) and it goes like a rocket.
New MAF at idle with EGR's shut showed 20 g/s.
At idle with EGR's open 5% MAF is 19 g/s
