I would appreciate some guidance on this problem.
This vehicle is a motor caravan and is used extensively for business use. It was re-mapped about a year ago (not by me) and since then every few hundred miles or so, it would cut out and then restart after a few minutes and drive perfectly until a few hundred miles later. It has been into the Peugeot Main Dealer where they have replaced the fuel pressure sensor and I believe to be an in-tank lift pump. The fuel filter had also been changed. The problem remained.
The owner was unhappy with the re-map and thought perhaps this was the cause of the problem. I attended, and as normal procedure conducted a diagnostic check which pulled fault code PO191 as described above. The re-map programme was found to be poor and as a consequence I remapped it again with no guarantee it would solve the problem. The vehicle was transformed in performance on the road test and I decided to undertake some homework on the fault code. My findings indicated that the fault could be due to a faulty injector so the customer was advised to have the injectors checked if the fault re-occurs.
Sadly the fault did re-occur and the owner took the vehicle back to the main dealer who sent the injectors away for testing and came back with no fault found. Peugeot have now suggested that they change the main pump at a cost of about £1500 to see if this cures the problem and failing that, to have the ECU replaced. Naturally, the owner has baulked at this proposal and has asked for my advice...
As this is an intermittent problem, it would be very difficult to diagnose but I just wonder if any of you out there have had something similar, or point me in the right direction.
