I have done one on a passat. I did it on the car, measured the position sensor signal wire first. Then unbolted bracket to lift it up to get access to the locking nuts and clip.
On refitting had to undue bracket a couple of times to get to locking nuts to get the correct voltage on the position sensor.
I may have been lucky but worked OK.
