This car is almost impossible to start when hot and starts with difficulty when cold.
Codes when received; P0335 CKP, P1243 Boost press malfunction, P0380 Glow plug malfunction.
She is quite a high mileage at 137000.
Customer had a new crank sensor fitted about 6 months ago which did not improve the problem, I think he has only had it about 8 months and the fault developed soon after he got it! There is evidence that there has been work done in this area, black rtv on the cam cover gasket, slight damage to one spill pipe connection etc.
Unfortunately I am not very familiar with this system so I am "finding my way" a bit.
When reset only the crank sensor code returned. I exchanged cam and crank sensors with each other as they are identical part numbers, no change (Customer was adamant that I investigate for a cam sensor fault first). I think a CKP fault is being flagged because of the inconsistent signal brought about by the engine trying to start on one or two cylinders.
Runs well enough when it is going but to be honest I did not do a roadtest.
Rail pressure is showing about 31Mpa on cranking (engine not firing). I checked for leakage and it seemed excessive to me (I don't have spill bottles for this system so it was a bit of a crude test) so I sent the injectors for checking, initial responses from P.B.Asher indicate that they are probably ok.
Obviously I can do nothing until they are back in the engine.
I am wondering about a DMF fault but I didn't hear any DMF rattling or similar. I wouldn't have thought it would be IMV as there is plenty of rail pressure.
Not quite sure where to go next.
