Would appreciate guidance on this problem. Unfortunately I am not a deisel expert nor do I have a wiring diagram.
This was an intermittent non-starter and now it appears permanent. What I have found is that there is no glow-plug light illuminating, no feed to the glow-plugs or fuel cut off solenoid on the pump. By applying battery voltage to the fuel cut-off solenoid, the glow-plug light illuminates and the vehicle starts and runs. Sometimes, it will continue running when the jump lead is detached.
I have replaced the glow-plug relay which I believe is the middle of three located under the bonnet n/s. This has made no difference. Further investigation shows no feed to pin 86 of the relay. The relay has permanent battery feed to pin 30. By applying battery voltage to pin 86, the vehicle starts and runs.
I turned my attention to the ignition switch and I am told that the black box on the end causes problems. My tests show that with ignition "on" the 4 wires show battery voltage. The 5th wire shows nothing which I am assuming is the feed to the starter motor.
So, is it a case of raving the loom out to find where the feed to pin 86 is or is there something else I have missed. Perhaps I can wire in a switched feed to 86?
Sorry for long post but I wanted to give as much info as possible.
Regards
Pete M
PS: Should also mention that all fuses in the dash has been checked OK. Also found that the vehicle starts and runs when applying feed from one of the 2 black wires from the ignition switch to pin 86.
