yep ,checked tappets & all other possibiltys,also now belongs to a builder who only has 2 speeds,one is stopped & you can guess the other,when this fails to start if you whip the heater plugs out they are damp,must be low compression figue causing that!also if it does start we get heavy dieseling during heater plug duration,which cuts the instant the plugs go off!
