Need to remove diesel injection pump for repair or replace. I understand that timing cover removal involves sump removal and therefore seperating geabox. Is this necessary to remove and refit pump?

Fit times I have found show 4.4 for cover and 3.5 for pump.

Timing marks for chain are behind cover but it is not difficult to find TDC on comp stroke. Any one been here before?
