Hi Paul, Yes I do mean the VERY top cover with the fuel return at one end. Do NOT remove any other parts of the pump or it will need re-setting on a bench.

Once this is removed you will see the HDK sensor witch is the feedback sensor for the control collar motor, the centre spindle should rotate freely without any stiffness.
